Book Settings Illustrated

As a final project for our latest novel unit, each book group created a mural showing the setting of the novel that they read.  The author of all of the books that we read is Jean Craighead George. She is a naturalist, and she sets her books in interesting places throughout the United States.  The first book mural to the left, shows the Everglades, Florida.  This book, The Missing Gator of Gumbo Limbo, tells the story of a girl named Lisa who along with her friends and neighbors try to locate their "watch-dog" alligator Dajun.
The second book illustrated on the left is My Side of the Mountain.  Sam Gribley leaves his family and sets out to live for a year in the Catskill Mounatins of New York. This poster shows the home that Sam made for himself in a tree.
Three groups all read a book called, Tree Castle Island. This book tells the story of twins who were separated at birth but become reunited in the Okeefenokee Swamp in Georgia. All of the books go into great detail about the settingsand the plants and animals in them.  Each of the main characters values the environment and tries to protect it.
It was fun creating the murals from the ideas in the novels.
